Learning an instrument, especially piano, can be a difficult task. With all those chords, music theories and technique, it's definitely a big challenge to keep all of it in mind. However, these apps can help your journey to learn piano immensely. They often help you in some aspects (but there are some apps that are comprehensive), and they can also track your progress so you know that you're getting better.

However, not all apps are made the same. So I've done most of the legwork and looked for the best among the rest. Here's a list of the best apps to learn piano for Android:

1. SimplyPiano by JoyTunes

If you're starting out with learning piano, one of the things that you might need is a skilled piano teacher. If you don't have that resource, then it's not the end of the world! SimplyPiano by JoyTunes is just about the next best thing to a piano teacher.

Simply Piano walks you through all the basics like note reading, rhythm and scales. It even lets you play the latest tunes like Ed Sheeran's Photograph and Katy Perry's Firework. It works by showing you some notes and walks you through how to play it by listening to your piano. Rather than learning just one aspect of piano, you get the whole package. Personally, it's the app that made me realize how much of a novice I am in piano because there's a lot more to be learned.

The caveats? You have to make sure that your piano is tuned, or if you're using an digital piano, you have to make sure the pitch is correct. Another thing that might turn you away is the fact that beyond the first lesson, you'll have to pay a monthly subscription. But trust me, you'll learn more in one month with this app, than you'll learn in 10 years self studying.

One of the most important things to a pianist – no, all musicians, is pulse or beat. Aside from foot tapping, a metronome can help you keep track of the beat. However, if you're going to buy a real metronome, it might turn out to be expensive if you want to get the latest and greatest.

But it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg if you use The Metronome by Soundbrenner. You have a very flexible app at your disposal and it's absolutely free. That's right, one of the best apps to learn piano on Android is free to download. You're not even badgered by ads when you use it. The only thing that they asked you to do is to consider buying their smartwatch slash metronome (which is a really good deal).

Honestly, I've got no issues with this app. I really enjoy the fact that you can easily change the time signature and the beats per minute. If you really want to stay in rhythm with your favorite piece, you need this app on your phone.
